Poultry
If you have never tasted the goodness of eggs brought in fresh from the nest, you might be surprised! Not only can you see the difference but you can taste the difference. And once you have tasted farm fresh eggs, you will not want to return to store-bought eggs. The good news is, chickens are incredibly easy to raise!
One of the first things we did while we were building our homestead was to build a chicken coop (to match the house design) and stock it with day old chicks. We raised our first batch of chicks in 2015 and we have not bought a single egg since. It was one of the best and easiest decisions we made.
In 2019 we (happily) were having a difficult time keeping eggs in the refrigerator for our own use due to our many happy customers. so we added a larger coop to accompany more laying hens and turned the original coop into a brooder house for chicks.
