About Us
We both grew up in the Midwest amidst the dairy industry, Ginnie from North
Dakota and Rick from Minnesota. Our families were largely self-sufficient so it was natural, when looking forward to retirement, that we gravitated towards homesteading. What better
land to begin our adventure than the “last best place”, the Big Sky Country of southwest Montana?
Ginnie has a nutrition background, is an outstanding cook, and administered the USDA Food Program for a non-profit in Gallatin County, Montana. Rick has a M.S. Agronomy from Montana State University and has spent his entire 34 year career with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. He is also an ag consultant and a Certified Crop Advisor.
After building their two story monitor style barn, we began building our own home from the ground up (talk about a DIY project)! Simultaneously, we started homestead life by raising free-range chickens, Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, ducks, pheasants, meat birds, turkeys, pigs and an extensive garden.
